You may have heard the news that Virgin Rail was not awarded the West Coast rail franchise in a procurement exercise recently. The Public Accounts Committee is to look into whether or not the Department for Transport exercised due diligence when it awarded the franchise to First Group. The DfT has been accused of going with the cheapest bid and concerns have been voiced as to whether First Group will be able to deliver the service promised at the price offered.
