Babcock have secured a multi-million-pound contract to construct the world’s first reactive compensation station for DONG energy’s Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm near Rosyth.
Babcock will manufacture the five deck station, complete with heli-deck; from its Rosyth facility in Scotland, with support from a specialist local and UK supply chain.
The works to construct the reactive compensation station will start in summer 2016. The reactive compensation station will transmit the clean electricity produced by the offshore wind farm onshore, enabling the high voltage AC system to work with cable lengths longer than those previously used for offshore wind.
Ian Donnelly, managing director of Babcock’s energy and marine business said: “This is a big development for the Scotland's renewables sector and this contract means exciting times for local industry.”
